Ted de Groot

Ted de Groot, the son of Irish immigrants, is the spirited leader of the team at Spurstone. Backed by his extensive experience in the financial services industry, Ted is continually inspired by his belief in everyone's ability to build something great.

His career launched 17 years ago with Advest, a regional brokerage firm, before an acquisition brought him to Merrill Lynch and, finally, to UBS Financial. While at UBS, Ted's efforts included work on a Barron's Top 100 Team, designed to advise corporate executives.

Motivated by a good challenge, Ted enjoys collaborating with his clients in order to determine the best possible solution for their unique situations. Ever aware of the disconnect between Wall Street and his client's private goals for their families, Ted is motivated to make Spurstone a strong, independent firm committed to his clients' families and futures.

A key component of this initiative is education. A proactive adviser, Ted focuses on the importance of educating clients in their investment decisions, empowering them to pursue their desired goals. Vocal and attentive to unanticipated needs, Ted works with families to develop the strategies required to address these potential risks. Exceptional wealth management exceeds stock market events, which is why he explores other wealth and estate planning details with clients, partnering with attorneys and tax specialists to create the best possible plan.

Away from the office, Ted enjoys quality time with his wife, Kelly, and their three daughters. An outdoor sports enthusiast, Ted also loves to log miles on the back of his motorcycle. A self-professed history buff, if his professional path had taken him in a different direction, Ted would likely have become a history teacher. Ultimately, Ted pursued his B.S. in Business at La Salle University in Philadelphia. Ted and his family currently reside in Simsbury, Connecticut.

Ted's favorite charity is Wounded Warriors. He also volunteers at the Simsbury Fly-In, as well as events sponsored by his daughters' schools. In December 2017, Ted became a Board Member of the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, CT.  When he isn't working, volunteering, or rooting for the Washington Redskins, Ted enjoys traveling to just about any place his wife and daughters are willing to explore.
